Make a child's wish come true during the holiday season. The Holiday Helper program annually provides gifts and parties for over 250 children in the local community.
This year's Holiday Helper parties will be December 6, 8, and 9, 2017.
Volunteers can choose one or multiple children from one of our four partner local agencies and purchase gifts based on that child's top three wants and needs (valuing approximately $50). Unwrapped gifts are returned to the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning by November 27, and then they will be wrapped and given to the children.
Stop by the Center to pick up a sponsorship card, or call Paige Buschman at 309-438-1166 to schedule an appointment and a representative will bring a list of children still needing sponsorship to you or your department!
Holiday Helper Parties are held to interact with children in the community and to distribute the gifts collected through Holiday Helper. Parties will be held at four local community agencies in Bloomington-Normal: Boys and Girls Club (December 9), Center for Youth and Family Solutions (December 9), UNITY Community Center (December 6), and Western Avenue Community Center (December 8). One hundred volunteers are needed for the parties to help children with a variety of activities, such as games, sports, and arts and crafts.

Once we have all of the gifts, we need to wrap them! Volunteers help wrap the gifts donated through Holiday Helper. Supplies for wrapping will be provided. Wrapping will take place December 1 from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm and December 2 from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm.
All wrap and pack party volunteer slots have been filled.
Party Coordinators are essential to the success of Holiday Helper Parties. Party Coordinators are student leaders who work in teams of two or three to design the parties for the children who have been sponsored. Each team will be assigned to one of the four agencies listed above. Party Coordinators are encouraged to be creative as they select activities, determine the agenda, and encourage children in the community.
